Gallon House Covered Bridge
The Gallon House Covered Bridge earned its moniker by being a “pigeon drop” for a nearby dispensery that sold White Lightening by the gallon during prohibition (2013, p. 188). It is the last remaining covered birdge in Marion County and one of the oldest in Oregon (1985, p. 167).

The Gallon House is Marion County’s only remaining historic bridge. The bridge celebrated its 100th birthday in 2016. In 1990, a rehabilitation project supported some stringers with pressure-treated timbers. The “portals on this bridge have been altered a number of times, at one point included a hinged panel for higher loads” (2013, p. 188).

Photography
The Gallon House bridge is a bit of a photography challenge for several reasons.
The bridge is regularly used by the local community which makes it hard to linger under the 84-foot Howe truss.
Graffiti is often on the concrete supports. Now I appreciate that some graffiti is artistic; Gallon House seems to attract some unkind messages. The ones you do not want to feature in your images.
The angles of where to stand and avoid unkind messages in your images proves is tricky.
