Short Covered Bridge
Short Covered Bridge is located in Linn County and is the only remaining covered bridge on the South Fork of the Santiam River. Short Covered Bridge was built in 1945. Originally, named Whiskey Butte Bridge. It was renamed after long-time resident, Gordon Short.

Short Covered Bridge spans the South Fork of the Santiam River.
According to the Department of Transporation Covered Bridge Manual, windows “provide additional lightinside the bridge to facilitate safe daytime passage. They also often provide fishing access” (2005, p. 68). Siding protects the ends of the primary structural members from splashing water and windborne rain.
Short Covered Bridge spans the South Fork of the Santiam River. Fishers frequent the area which features hatchery trout, steelhead and Chinook as well as wild steelhead.
On January of 2023, a sign was posted by the Oregon’s Fish and Wildlife. They notified dog owners that salmon carcasses were left on the banks as part of a stream enrichment program. To learn more read here Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife

📷My favorite covered bridge lens is the Nikkor 10 - 24 mm. It is a versatile lens for bridges and landscapes. The open-sided bridge paired with light through the trees made this bridge a challenge to photograph (see below). Plan to give yourself plenty of time to find the perfect spot. This bridge might be easier to photograph in the summer when the water level is lower; for those photographers with waders or Xtra Tufs.

🥾A short hiking trail is connected to the parking lot. McDowell Creek Falls is a beautiful hike and is located between Lebanon, Oregon and Short Covered Bridge.
